The Town of Whiteland has been awarded a grant form recovery.gov and the Indiana Office of Energy Development to upgrade the lighting in the Whiteland Town Hall/Police Department, Whiteland Street Department and the Whiteland Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition to these lighting upgrades, the Town has sponsored the re-lighting of The Whiteland Community High School Gymnasium and the Whiteland Elementary Gymnasium. The Town has also been awarded a grant to upgrade the heating and cooling equipment in the Whiteland Town Hall/Police Department, Whiteland Street Department and the Whiteland Wastewater Treatment Plant. The total dollars for both the lighting and heating and cooling grants is $164,343.00. The work to accomplish this will be starting about August1, 2010 and has to be completed by December 31, 2010. Any question regarding this grant can be directed to the Town Manager.

Recycling pickup day has been confusing since the ice storm. Recycling pickup day is this Tuesday, March 1, 2011 and the schedule is every other Tuesday, from that day will be the day recycling will be picked up. Heavy trash item (one) is the first Tuesday of every month. Any additional heavy item that a resident needs picked can make araingements with Republic Services of Indiana, at an additional fee, by calling 917-7300 extension 0. Electronics such as TV’s, computers, monitors etc. can not be picked by Republic Services of Indiana. The Johnson County Solid Waste District can accomodate these items. It is the policy of the Town regarding lawn irrigation systems that if piping and sprinkler heads are placed in the Town’s right-of-way (generally, 12 feet from the back side of the street curb) the home owner takes the responsibility if damaged by a utility or the Town.
