Position Title:                  Senior Planner

Work schedule:               Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm (plus some evening meetings)

Planning Duties/Responsibilities

  • Facilitates community planning initiatives through identifying and guiding development opportunities to be consistent with the current zoning ordinances and the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.
  • Interprets comprehensive plan, zoning ordinances, and subdivision ordinances.
  • Reviews Town codes and regulations for compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Knowledge of Town codes and ordinances as well as related state and federal statutes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the comprehensive and strategic planning processes.
  • Executes strategies in planning, zoning, economic and community development in coordination with the Town Manager.
  • Identifies, secures and coordinates resources necessary to implement community development programs and potential funding opportunities.
  • Assist with grant application submissions.
  • Meet with prospective/current developers to ensure all written agreements are being adhered to per legal counsel and Town policies/procedures.
  • Represents Town in all Plan Commission-related meetings, Redevelopment Commission, Stormwater Management Board, Board of Zoning Appeals and Council Meetings.
  • Conducts Technical Review Commission meetings with applicable Town employees and relevant parties in preparation of monthly Plan Commission meetings.
  • Ensures that Town, federal, and state codes are followed, regulating the development review and design standards are followed and met.
  • Oversees employees that work in planning, zoning, inspections and enforcement areas.
  • Field Inspectors reports to this position.
  • Ensures that field inspectors are educated and trained to do their job effectively and responsibly.
  • Reviews Town permit applications for approval.

Education and Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in planning or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of professional planning experience. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally deal with other people.
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make formal presentations before boards, Town Councils, commissions, citizen’s committees, and other special interest groups using charts, maps, and graphic illustrations.
  • Knowledge of Town codes and ordinances as well as related state and federal statutes and regulations
  • Knowledge of governmental operations.
  • Knowledge of the comprehensive and strategic planning processes.
  • Ability to research and analyze data and ordinances to develop conclusions based upon resulting information.

Whiteland Road Closure Planned

Whiteland Road is expected to close on 4/12/21 with closure east of the Graham Road roundabout to Bob Glidden Blvd. The closure is expected to last through the end of April.
 
Detours will be in place and these closures are weather permitting as they will be paving and pouring concrete. If weather permits the contractors are planning to work Saturdays and Sundays to expedite the project as quickly as possible.
